Things to do During the Holy Week

1. Palm Sunday – Attend the morning mass and have all your young coconut palm blessed by the parish priest after the mass. Wave it to the air to receive the Lord’s blessings. The blessed palm would protect you and your family (as we believe) from sickness and harm. Repent. Pray.

2. Holy Monday – Back to office and do the regular office work. Repent. Pray.

3. Holy Tuesday – At work still. Repent. Pray.

4. Holy Wednesday – Puzzled. Not sure if the administrators would announce Holy Wednesday as an official holiday. It is the so-called management prerogative. Repent. Pray.

5. Maundy Thursday – Travel back to your own province and be with family. As for me, I’ll be in Batangas with parents and siblings. Beach. Beach. Beach. Participate in singing the “Pasion”. Attend the mass. Repent. Pray.

6. Good Friday – Observe and participate in the procession. Go to Kamay ni Hesus in Lucban and Pray on every station of the 14 Way of the Cross. Watch the Last Supper. Repent. Pray.

7. Black Saturday – Movie marathon. Watch the 10 commandments, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Passion of Christ. Repent. Pray.

8. Easter Sunday – Easter Egg Hunting with family. Have fun. Celebrate with family for He has resurrected.

You can enjoy your Holy Week but in moderation. We have to spend the week with a lot of repentance and prayers. We all know that most of us are much too eager for the Holy Week to come for it is the annual break from office work. It is the only time of the year where summer season comes and is very much appropriate for family bonding activities. But Christian Catholics as we are, we should observe the celebration of the Lenten Season very religiously. Remember that we are here now enjoying our lives and all that we have because of all His sufferings and death. Isn’t it but right for us to return the favor by giving a little sacrifice (if not enormous) for our Savior? Don’t you think it is apt for us to relax and take things slow? Rekindle our relationship with Him perhaps?
